Do Hard Things

May we invite you all to a very special event in May? It's called Christian Parenting Day. One day, set aside each spring, to encourage the community - mothers, fathers, grandparents, future parents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, teachers, friends...anyone with a heart to biblically train up a child.

This year we are honored to have personally heard the story of one of the families who will be presenting. We were eating lunch at an International cafe in Minneapolis, on break from the 2007 Desiring God conference, when we heard their simple, gripping story. They are a couple who heard God's calling for them to adopt two brothers from Zambia, and obeyed. Sound interesting? Just wait, it gets better. Their sons were only the 3rd and 4th children ever to be adopted from Zambia without their adopting parents having to live in-country for a year. Intriguing, eh? Just wait, here's the kicker. The year they adopted their boys...they also celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. We love it!

We live in a culture where everything around us screams...Be Comfortable, You Deserve It, Indulge, Retire - Live Your Dreams, Take a Risk - Go Whitewater Rafting...Are we drowning in ourselves?? Yes!

Come, May 2nd, hear of not just one couple, but two couples who are doing hard things and loving it. Why? Not for themelves, but for the joy of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.

The Details: May 2 ➻Laker High School ➻ 0800-1530 ➻Pigeon, Michigan

Topics that will be addressed include: Biblical Perspectives on Parenting the Younger and Older Child; The Theology of Adoption; Parenting and Money; Guiding Children into the Arts; Raising True Worshipers; How to Adopt.

On a side note, I've been wanting to read the book Do Hard Things, since learning of it while in Guinea. Anybody out there read it? It's written by two teenagers - exhorting their generation (and all) to rebel against low expectations and encourage their peers to meet the challenge of doing tough things for God’s sake and for God’s glory.
