Hitting a Swallow

We've been learning and thinking a lot on thankfulness around here of late. Each night before bed we ask Abraham what he'd like to thank God for about the day. This week he said, " for Mama hitting the swallow on the road." Huh?

Mama replies, "Abraham are you sure you want to thank God for that? Can you think of something happy you'd like to thank God for . . . " My reply doesn't sound right at all and I'm feeling a check in my spirit. Silence. "Wait a minute, Abraham. Mama was wrong. We do need to thank God in all things, in all circumstances . . . for He is in control of everything. His Word tells us to do so . . . Okay, let's thank God that Mama hit the swallow with the car today." Even though I don't want to? Even though I didn't like killing that pretty little swallow? Hmm. This is what you call us to though, Lord. Hmm.

We ponder much lately.

Thanking God for all below and for wheat not yet harvested (oh that's hard), praying that it will not sprout...

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

. . . but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.  Ephesians 5: 19-21

You are one wise Mama.... Yes, giving thanks in all things. How this pleases Him.
