Can you find the Killdeer Eggs?

Wowzers - neither could we for about a week! A very protective little Killdeer couple recently decided to make a nest and hatch four eggs in our garden! See if you can find them in the first pic.

Did you find them? From the center of the picture, move left approx. 1cm and you'll see a small nest.

Below is a picture of Mama Killdeer sitting at the end of the row of onions on top of her eggs. She's hard to pick out - I didn't want to get too close and our digital zoom isn't that fancy. We've also got a kick out of watching her and two other killdeer in the neighborhood (dad and ???) try to keep us away from their babies. If you didn't grow up in the country, maybe you've never seen this. Killdeer will feign a broken wing a ways from their nest to lure you out of the area of their nest. One of them really fooled me before I realized they made a nest in the garden - I thought it had been hit by a car!! Then as I got closer to it and further from the garden it got up and scurried away. Silly little birds!:)

The beauty of their markings and unique attributes like the tricky broken wing act leave no doubt in our minds of their Creator! A Big Bang way back when in the Universe makes no sense to us when you see creatures so uniquely designed! By the way, killdeer are actually a shorebird, even though they seem to like grassy fields and gardens!

  2. Pretty cool. I just found out that Whippoorwills and Chuck Wills Widows and the like also feign the broken wing....
